  • can I just-

if you don’t like someone’s blog? unfollow them

If you don’t like someone’s fic? stop reading it

if you don’t like how somebody is characterizing your blorbo - ignore/block

If you follow someone you like, but notice they post things that you don’t like? block the tags

If you see someone tag something incorrectly/don’t tag it at all? kindly inform them

If you see somebody make a mistake, do not attack them. human error is a thing, and most of the time people are super apologetic about it.

You’re absolutely allowed to be passionate about what you love, but your experience engaging in fandom is entirely your own.

And honestly, if the experience feels overwhelming or is making you miserable, just log off for a few days…take a deep breath, go outside, bathe in the sun or sit under a tree… but follow and engage with others who make this joyful for you (that’s the whole point here!)

because there is literally zero reason for you to send hate messages, fight with people online, or get angry over fictional characters or ships.

  • Hey ERM I'm seeing a lot of ppl on my dash reblog a post about an alleged "official Tumblr staff survey" being hosted on a Super Secret Unannounced Staff Blog (@/benevolenthellsite). This survey is fake as shit:

-the account has a weirdly quirky name and an extremely vague one considering the allegedly use as an "official surveying account"

-it reblogs every staff post, but, despite the other staff accounts all reblogging each other, the verified staff accounts have never reblogged the "survey" account's posts

-has not been mentioned on any of Tumblr's exterior accounts, has not been mentioned in any shareholder report released by Tumblr

-the survey platform used is an extremely unprofessional consumer-grade platform that was in the news in May for hosting thousands of phishing scams

-the alleged staff account, which again is @/benevolenthellsite, has only existed for a few months

-if this were an official survey of the site userbase, they would not randomly post it on a secret staff account and not promote it whatsoever. Additionally, the survey is not formatted professionally at all, almost every question requires a write-in answer which would be hell to gather data from at a large scale, and every question on the survey is extremely vague and the relevant data gathered from them would be virtually useless to a company

Please stop reblogging the post. Thanks!

  • UPDATE:

    image

If you search the blog you get a second, even older blog that was seemingly a first attempt at this weird faking being a staff account for no reason thing??? Like they made a Google form with almost the exact same questions but nobody bought it so they just. Abandoned that blog and then made a new one and tried again. Also that is not the definition of quiz

  • tumblr is so funny it’s just scrapbooking for your hyperfixations. like yeah here’s a gifset that’s here for no reason other than the fact that I think it’s Pretty. here’s hugh dancy for the same reason. here’s me rambling about the thing that’s been itching my brain for months. here’s me giggling in the corner. here’s unadulterated mental illness

  • See, the thing is, I don't think Tumblr is A/B testing.

A/B testing is for shit like "Which subject line gets a better response to a mass email." It's meant to be invisible to the consumer or end-recipient. With a massive sweeping shift in UI of a social media site, there's no point in A/B testing if you aren't actively soliciting organized feedback; it's not like the change isn't highly visible. There's no reason not to institute this change and then pop up a window asking exactly what we think. There's no reason to do it on a Wednesday and then have Support direct everyone to a blog whose only meaningful way of gathering feedback isn't open until next Monday, and who has until now basically been a PR operation.

And frankly even if they were A/B testing, who fucking asked me if I wanted to be tested on? Did they think I'd welcome being told that I'm their guinea pig?

This isn't an A/B test. It's a tolerance test. Give half the site an untenably bad UI and tell them your hands are tied and see how long it takes them to acclimate. See how long it takes them to cobble some shit together to make it tolerable so you can keep your garbage new design when everyone else inevitably gets it too. How uncomfortable can you keep them and still keep them? That's the question they're answering.

Fine, you motherfuckers win. As long as this site is still 5% less garbage than the others, most of us will stay. Where are we going to go? So don't bother testing in future. Just push your fucking code. I'll be gone as soon as I can, but for all I know that's years away. I hope that makes you feel powerful, assholes. You're curating a site based on learned helplessness. I hope that makes you feel big.

  • okay you know that one game you’d play on the playground with friends where one person was designated as the “watcher” and everyone had to move around when the watcher wasn’t looking, and freeze if they were? and if the watcher caught you moving you were out of the game?

what do you call this game???

    night at the museum

    statues in the garden

    ghost in the graveyard
